FHE - Kind language at home

The Monday after our tithing Family Home Evening we were driving home to Texas. So our next FHE lesson was the following week and given by Fixitman. He chose a talk from the April 2000 session called Your Eternal Home by Thomas Monson. He talked about using kind language at home in talking one to another even when we are irritated or frustrated, referencing two things in the talk, the quoted scripture " let your words tend to edifying one another" (D&C 136:24) and second, the hymn “Let Us Oft Speak Kind Words" (Hymn 232 by Joseph L. Townsend).

Oh, the kind words we give shall in memory live

And sunshine forever impart.

Let us oft speak kind words to each other;

Kind words are sweet tones of the heart.

My sweet husband discussed with the children how sometimes his voice tone was short with them and he wanted to work on that this year. He asked them for suggestions for how we could work on speaking more kindly one to another in the home. The kids, bless their hearts, gave funny suggestions and there was lots of laughter. We then closed the meeting and had treats and played a game of Uno Attack.
