June 2012 Cub Scout Camp

I went to Cub Scout camp with Dinoguy for a week this year (2012) as a parent leader. Princess came along and went to the little kids camp. Trainboy and Baby stayed with Fixitman and sometimes with friends during the day. I really wanted to go with him last year when I was a Wolf den leader, but Baby was too young to be separated from me for that long and it wasn't possible to bring him. I loved the experience. I loved being with all the boys and all the fun activities. Dinoguy had a blast also. I didn't take many pictures, but we did have fun.The weather was pretty good most of the week too - the last two days got into the 90's but we adjusted.
Cub scout camp is like Boy paradise
Earning his silver bullet

Learning to play golf

Meeting some animals
He loved the BB Gun range

Finding bones in owl pellets.

Dinoguy has red shorts, and loves archery
This coming year I am planning to go again. It was that much fun. Also, Trainboy and Dinoguy will both be at camp and Princess asks if she gets to go again so we will almost all get to go have fun. I don't think Baby will be potty trained in time so he'll have to stay home with Dad or friends.

Camping & Playing in a River

Is there anything more fun then playing in a river? I have childhood memories that make it seem like the best playground in the world. The boys seem to love it too. Water, rocks, critters, beautiful views, rivers are awesome.

We went camping at Pedernales Falls SP. The falls were very small since the river was small from no recent rain, however that made it more fun to play at the river. We caught tiny baby fish and tadpoles, skipped rocks, looked at miniature clams, beautiful flowers and more. Sarge played fetch and swam; we looked at the stars late at night, blew bubbles, played hide and seek, made s'mores...

Dinoguy and Trainboy played and played and played. Camping is just awesome. Munchkin watched and observed a lot. She is so easy going and happy wherever we go.

Camping at the lake

We decided to go camping with friends for 2 nights this past week. Dinoguy loves camping! He was negotiating when the next camping trip would be while we were still there. There was lots of playing on the rocky lake beach. The water level is down, since we haven't gotten sufficient rain in a while, but it really hit home how much when we checked out the swimming area that is almost completely dried out. The kids are playing in what is supposed to be the deep end of the large swimming area. See the water level pole?Dinoguy really couldn't get enough of playing on the beach. He loved it. Trainboy had fun throwing the rocks in the water.
Sarge loves camping, he gets lots of games of fetch at the water and in the grass. He doesn't seem to tire out much while we're there but he was surprisingly calm for over a day when we got home. I guess he did get a bit of a workout!Munchkin did great on her first camping trip as long as she wasn't hit directly by the wind too much. She slept fine and mostly hung out looking cute.We had fun looking at the stars with my favorite star book - Find the Constellations by H.A. Rey. It is a great book to read with kids. I am starting to feel fairly competent at finding the winter constellations, can't wait to learn the Summer ones. :)

There were of course ghost stories, roasted marshmallows & hotdogs, ball games and fossil hunts. It was a grand time.

Our group camping adventure

What happens when you take 11 unschooling families with kids of all ages and put them together in a group campsite?

In our case, it makes for a FUN weekend!

We had a great time playing, exploring, fossil collecting, eating, playing with Sarge & other dogs, flashlight tag, etc. with our friends this weekend while camping. It was full of good times.

The temperature dipped into the mid 40's at night the first night, but it was close to 80 during the days, and with fires and coats we had fun.

Sarge enjoyed chasing sticks in the lake and meeting the other dogs who came. He got loved on by many people and had a good time. Trainboy also enjoyed playing in the lake.

Fixitman chopped up A LOT of wood for the group fire. He is awesome. Dinoguy enjoyed helping him.
I think this is one of those experiences that photos and words are hard for me to capture. There was a great energy there and it was good times for all.
